Important Back to School Information

ALL ABOUT ME BAG

I just can’t wait to meet you the first day and start learning about your interests and talents. On the first day of school, please bring with you an “ALL ABOUT ME” bag to share with your classmates. In this bag, feel free to include anything that lets the rest of us know all about you and any of your favorites!

READING / WRITING / MATH

We will be continuing our workshop models in reading and writing, as well as returning to our BRIDGES math program to push ourselves mathematically! In reading and writing, I’m sure you remember this to be a time when you take part in lessons and, most importantly, work independently to practice and build your skills while also setting goals. We will be looking at great mentor texts as a way to immerse yourself in the learning and live as readers and writers. I want to challenge you to take risks as you develop your skills and become part of a community that shares and learns from one another. I CAN’T wait to see all that you find yourself capable of and watch you grow!

WRITER'S NOTEBOOK

You will be taking your Writer’s Notebook home to personalize it and make it special in your own way. You should decorate the front and back covers of your notebook. I’m asking you to start thinking about and collecting materials you could use. Materials could consist of photographs of special memories, people, pets or places, as well as any other artifacts that are meaningful to your life. These decorations should have the potential to inspire some of your ideas for writing. These notebooks will be getting a lot of use, so you may want to think of applying clear tape or contact paper in order to provide protection and ensure they last throughout the year. My favorite part is always sharing these as a class and seeing all the uniqueness among our learning community!
