Nathan, our first graduated out of the program and we adopted Martin.
Porterville Women's Shelter Valentine's Day Children's Party:
Though cancelled at the very last minute due to a COVID outbreak, our students donated 30 "Goodie Boxes" filled with toys, candy, coloring supplies, and spent their lunch hours decorating the boxes to give to all the children at the shelter & transitional housing.
A "normal" shelter party involved meeting at a secure location between 5-8 pm on a weeknight close to the holiday we are celebrating.(typically a church annex building) Approximately 20 students work the party but it takes the entire club to supply the decor, snacks, and goodies for them when they leave. At the party are women from Zonta, reps from the shelter, myself, and our kids. They bring the kids and moms to the location in groups by van or car. Z Club arrives early and decorates the room and set up stations. Depending on the season things can change but normally it has face painting, coloring and card making, cupcake and cookie decorating, cornhole, bingo, and often musical chairs or red light-green light depending on the ages and music is playing.
