Ms. Rufo

My name is Ms. Rufo and it is my pleasure to welcome you to Astronomy! Inside of our Planetarium we can run real time astronomy simulations. This means we can zip around an accurate model of our solar system and galaxy in 3D giving us a deeper understanding of complex astronomic phenomenon. Our planetarium offers a sense of immersion and fun that a regular classroom cannot provide.

Physical Education

FACS

Mrs. Silverman

Our Family and Consumer Science classes focus on the areas of interpersonal relationships, leadership, community connections, resource management, entrepreneurship, global citizenship, sustainability, food production, nutrition, meal preparation, and cultural foods.

In the FACS classroom, over the past 7 years, our students have donated over 80,000 dollars to charities all over the world.  We have placed in the national Lead2Feed competition 7 times and won the Grand Prize of 25,000 dollars in 2016.  The money from Lead2Feed is donated to charities that the children choose.  We have won  34 iPads and 5 Microsoft Surfaces.

Our FACS classes also manage the Port Chester Middle School Giving Garden.  We grow and donate over 1000 lbs of organic produce each year.  We have local families that come and work in the summer and are able to take food for their support.  Additional food is donated to local families in need and  Caritas of Port Chester.  During the school year students maintain the garden and harvest the crops.  We prepare the food in our classroom kitchens.  We work closely with Open Door Family Medical center to maintain and support the garden.
