This is a one-semester course to examine a wide variety of religious and cultural traditions found in our world today. By gaining a working knowledge of Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and other important traditions, students will have the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the global human experience.
Follow this link to the Daily Religions Google Slides (on the TV) that I put up each day for students to read the days essential standard, Performance & Success criteria, what is turned in, what we are doing each day including the daily writing/classwork, and what reminders I put up. These are updated twice a week.
These slides are a "directory" of what we do each day to direct students, parents/guardians, important adults, to what needs to be done for each unit. I also HIGHLY recommend using Skyward for due dates. I also use Google Classroom. If parents/guardians would like access to that, please email me (adixon@portageps.org) and I will add you to those specific assignments. You may also login to Google Classroom as your student to view it (you can ask your student for their school computer login or find it on Skyward on PORTFOLIO).
Each unit, to the right, has copies of the handouts glued into the composition notebooks assignments for each of our units. Students can also find some extra copies in class. If a student is absent, check with your buddy, in the RELIGIONS BIN on the side counter, and MUST CHECK with Dixon for absent work and quiz/test make-ups when they are absent
Within each of these links you will find the handouts, notes, homework and class assignments. Some assignments, however, will only be on our Google Classroom, so be sure to check there, once we get onto it (which won't be right away) and on Skyward for due dates and any missing work. You may also see and/or email Mrs. Dixon with any questions. Click on each link below, then the unit attachments (assignments, teacher notes, hand-outs, learning targets, etc) will be found, scroll in each link along right side.
Intro Paperwork (Religions in the Headlines, Book Review)
2. Hinduism
3. Buddhism
4. Chinese Traditions (Confucianism/Taoism)
5. Islam
6. Judaism
7. Christianity
8. Final Presentations
1. 1 1/2-2 inch binder or 2-pocket/3-pronged folder for organizing papers - this will be collected 2-3 times a semester - so CREATE a system of organization and KEEP all papers (units, chronological, homework, notes, etc...some system)
2. Textbooks - We will be using mostly handouts and articles in class. There really is no 1 textbook. Thus, your binder TRULY is important for you to have organized for the articles and worksheets.
3. Religions book you will choose from the library for several assignments including a literature peer circle.
Senior Exams Start Friday, May 22 - so keep it together and pay attention for your final presentation and be ready for your final exam on that date. The review for the final exam will be posted above on the unit list after Spring Break. You will be responsible for everything on it.
Underclassmen, there will be presentations before and after senior exams. You will have your Religions FINAL EXAM during your exam week. On senior exam day, you will have work to do quietly related to the presentations/and or preparing for the final exam (yes, well ahead of time) but we'll see where we are at the week before and then determine exactly what you will be doing on Senior Final Exam Day.
