Chromebook Tips

Do you have chromebook problems? We have solutions.

Check out any of our chromebook tips, keyboard shortcuts, and ways to maximize your battery life!

Trouble with Wi-Fi?

  • Try pinning your important tabs and restarting your chromebook. This will take the chromebook off of the network and put it back on, and should fix the problem.
  • Check that you're connected to the PCSD network, and not a different network, as other networks are often slower and used for different devices than chromebooks.
  • If step one didn't work, go to portal.cipafilter.com and log out and log back into the Cipafilter. Your Cipafilter login are the same as your infinite campus login.
  • Still not working? Bring it down to the iCenter whenever works best for you and we'll figure out how to best fix your problem!

Slow Connection?

  • Because chromebooks aren't meant to have 500 tabs open and run quickly, that might be slowing you down. Close unused and unneeded apps and extensions, too.
  • Make sure that you're browsing on the PCSD network, other networks will make your connection slow.
  • Pin your important (classwork related) tabs, and restart. It's amazing what a restart can do!
  • Still not working? Bring it down to the iCenter whenever works best for you and we'll figure out how to best fix your problem!

Web Pages Blocked?

  • If you're trying to access a site that shouldn't be blocked, pin the tabs and restart the chromebook.
  • If the above tip doesn't help, go back to portal.cipafilter.com and log out and back into the Cipafilter. Your Cipafilter login is the same as Infinite Campus.
  • Tell the teacher, and see if they can whitelist the site from their end.
  • If nothing else works, bring it down to the iCenter to see what's wrong.

Physical Damage or Software Issues?

Sometimes things break. That's a part of life, and we get it. If your chromebook's problem is something with the hardware (screen, trackpad, keyboard) then bring it down to the iCenter, and we'll be sure to fix it for you!

If you have a software problem that you can't fix yourself (restarting is usually the magical answer), then bring it down to the iCenter, and any available iTeam members will take a look at it.

Need to get a longer Battery Life?

Chromebook batteries can last up to 8 hours, but only if they're brand new. When they start to get old, they start to drop down in battery efficiency. Here are some solutions:

  • Turn down your brightness. Even going down a button click can make your battery last longer. (and it's better for your eyes!)
  • Don't overcharge your chromebook. Overcharging the battery (leaving it plugged in for multiple days at a time) can diminish battery life.
  • Stay away from streaming sites. Not only do they slow down your network, but they run down your battery.
  • Shut your chromebook down over the weekend, and whenever else it is not being used for a long period of time. This will allow your chromebook to get a 'fresh start' and live longer.

What shortcuts can I use on my Chromebook?

  • Copy and paste: ctrl + c / ctrl + v
  • Screenshot: ctrl + screen change button (F5) + 5
  • Caps lock: alt + search button
