BELLA VOCE - Advanced Treble Chorus
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of an intermediate-level choir is strongly recommended. Audition.
This select, auditioned choral ensemble is comprised of students who have prior choral or instrumental experience and can read and perform music of moderate to advanced difficulty. Bella Voce provides students with opportunities to develop musicianship in specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. Activities create the development of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature that is appropriate in difficulty and range for the students, and basic music theory and sight-singing are included in instruction and assessment. CANTABILE - Beginning Treble Chorus
Grade 9
Prerequisite: Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome.
This non-auditioned choral ensembles are comprised of students who are beginning their choral studies at Portage High School. Cantabile provides students with opportunities to develop musicianship in specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. Activities create the development of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature that is appropriate in difficulty and range for the students, and basic music theory and sight-singing are included in instruction and assessment. CHORALIERS - Vocal Jazz/Show Choir

Prerequisite: Choraliers members must also be enrolled in another PHS music ensemble, unless approved by the Director. Successful completion of an intermediate-level choir is strongly recommended. Audition.
This select, auditioned choral ensemble is comprised of students who have prior choral or instrumental experience and can read and perform music of moderate to advanced difficulty. Choraliers provides students with opportunities to develop musicianship in specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. Activities create the development of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of vocal jazz and advanced choral literature, and basic music theory and sight-singing are included in instruction and assessment. Students also include movement and choreography in performance. Instruction includes the study of the history and stylistic elements of jazz. Students develop their creative skills through improvisation, composition, arranging, performing, listening, and analyzing. Auditions are scheduled each year for interested students. This ensemble performs regularly at festivals, contests, as well as community and school-sponsored events. Rehearsals occur during normal class time. Performances are frequent and occur during and after school hours, evenings, and some weekends. Participation in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest is strongly recommended.
CONCERT CHOIR - Beginning/Intermediate Mixed Chorus
