Welcome to the Portage High School Choirs website!
The Portage High School Choirs is a thriving program of over 200 performers, known for excellence, consistently earning high accolades including the ISSMA All-Music Award. The choral department includes two treble choirs, two mixed-voice concert choirs, and a mixed-voice show choir. There are numerous concerts throughout the year featuring all of our talented and dedicated students in a wide range of activities and ensembles and performance venues. The City of Portage (population 36,860) is on Lake Michigan and is about 45 minutes southeast of Chicago and 3.5 hours northwest of Indianapolis. Located in northwest Indiana, Portage is on Central Standard Time (Chicago time).
Portage Township Schools includes eight elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. The total student population for the Portage Township Schools is around 8,000 students, with a high school enrollment of around 2,500. Students start choir in 6th grade at the middle school level before moving to one of the high school's five ensembles. In addition to our ensemble program, the music department offers courses in music theory, music history, electronic music, and piano keyboarding.
