Queen Mary’s 2030 Strategy presents the ambition to deliver 'an outstanding, inclusive, world-class education and learner experience, co-created with our diverse learner body’’. To meet the Strategy, we introduced a recognition scheme for students who are involved in co-creative projects with educators, seeking together to enhance curriculum or learning experience (Student Enhanced Engagement and Development award - SEED). Students submit evidenced reflection on their co-creative work and are endorsed by a member of staff. This adds value to and promotes co-creation across the institution.
Co-creation is our way of working to run, promote and develop the SEED award. We listen and learn from students, educators, Students' Union, reviewers, endorsers, faculties and administrators. We are housed within but extend beyond the Queen Mary Academy which is located within the Office of the Principal and aims to inspire excellence and innovation in educational and research practice across the institution.
SEED is the flagship of co-creation internally and is engendering interest nationally.
In this presentation, we will present a framework for designing, implementing and evaluating institutional recognition schemes drawing on our experience with the SEED award. Points to be discussed include:
profiles of the members of the team responsible and involvement of students (profiles across the institution, multidisciplinary, and with students as partners)
Work ethics and approach (co-creative dimension supported by reflection on practice),
Values and principles (humanisation, flat hierarchies, belonging, and flourishing)
Reflective application process
PSF aligned assessment criteria
Review processes and panel management
Certification and quality assurance
Resources, support and training
Pathways for further recognition
We will also discuss opportunities and challenges and invite delegates to co-create new developments with us.
