Welcome! My name is Dr. Mary Maloney, and I am honored to serve as Principal of Pope John XXIII School. I joined the PJ23 community in June 2023, bringing with me over three decades of experience in education and educational leadership across both public and Catholic school systems. Since 2017, I have served as a Principal in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal, as well as a professional development leader for the Regional Office of Education. One of the most formative experiences of my life was serving in the Peace Corps as a teacher in Cameroon, Africa, shortly after graduating college.
I earned my Bachelor’s degrees in History and English from the University of Notre Dame, my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from DePaul University, and my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Loyola University Chicago.
I am especially proud to be the mother of two adult sons, Patrick and Quinn. I’m also the “grandmeow” to their cats, Greg, Jerry, and Luna. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, attending live music events, and traveling.
Pope John XXIII School is truly a joyful and faith-filled place to learn and grow. Our strong academic program is tailored to support each student’s individual strengths and challenges. We are a welcoming and inclusive community, supported by the vibrant faith life of our parish and the leadership of our Pastor, Fr. Jean-Philippe Lokpo. I am deeply grateful to work alongside our dedicated faculty and staff, and to partner with families in helping every student thrive.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out—I look forward to welcoming you to PJ23!
