History is my passion. I have taught in Polk County for 30 years and love bringing the exploration of our past to students. Though originally from near Winston-Salem, I have lived in Polk County for the last 28 years. I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with a BS degree in History/Secondary Education. I achieved National Board Certification in Early Adolescence-Social Studies/History in 2002 and re-certified in 2011 and 2021. I was blessed to be named the Polk County Middle School and Polk County Teacher of the Year in 2013-2014 and again in 2024-2025. I am also a Kenan Fellowship recipient for 2023-2024. United States history is my particular favorite area of study, especially the colonial and Revolutionary periods. I have spent time as a Revolutionary War re-enactor. I love to travel, research, and spend time outdoors camping, hiking, gardening, and fly fishing with my wife and son. I am always looking for opportunities to learn new things.
