Course Description:
The goal of this course is to promote essential knowledge, skills and attitudes students need to make key decisions about career options, high school curricular offerings relating to a pathway of their choice, as well as, postsecondary and workforce opportunities. Instructional focus will address interpersonal skills, management skills, employability skills, self-awareness, educational and career planning. In this course, middle school students will increase awareness of resources available to support educational and career planning. Students will develop a personalized individual Peach State Pathways: Education and Career Plan, explore management skills, and investigate employability skills.

Grading Policy: Labs and Projects = 50%
Assessments= 30%
Employability Skills/Final: 20%
Class Policies/Rules: All policies of the Polk School District Board of Education and student handbook will be enforced.
Make-up Work Policy: For each grading period, makeup work must be completed no later than two weeks after progress reports are issued. Students may not make up work outside of the grading period window once the time has passed.
Re-Test Policy: All departments in both middle and high schools have re-testing opportunities for students.
Students are allowed to retest one test per quarter, per subject.
Retest can earn full credit.
This retest policy does not include midterms, final exams or benchmark assessments.
Remediation is required from teacher or Directed Studies.
If close to half or more of the class fails, the material is to be retaught and the test given again for full credit.
If a student chooses not to use the retest option for either quarter, the lowest attempted test grade per class will be dropped at the end of the semester, prior to the determination of midterm/final exam exemption. Rigor points cannot be used for consideration for exam exemption.
Retest Policy and dropping of the lowest grade does not apply to Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment. Use of either is up to the discretion of the teacher per course.
Exam Exemption: Exam exemption policies must be approved by the superintendent each school year. Any and all exemption policies do not apply to EOCTs, AP exams or other PSD mandated examinations.
For 2025-2026, students may exempt midterms/finals if they meet the following criteria:
Student must have an 80 average or above
Students assigned ISS or OSS are not eligible to exempt midterm/final exams.
Late Assignment Policy: Students are expected to turn in all completed assignments at the time scheduled by the teacher. Any assignment turned in late will result in a ten point deduction per day late in the grade.
Homework Policy: Students are required to complete homework and turn in the completed assignments when requested. Failure to turn in homework will result in a 10 point deduction per day late in the grade.
Covid-19 Update: Social distancing and wearing a mask is highly recommended in the computer lab.
