About me
My name is Mr. James Hurst. I have been teaching ESOL in Polk since 2006. I teach at Cedartown High. I have taught middle school interrelated special education and ESOL in grades kindergarten through twelve.
I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education from Eastern Mennonite University. I earned a Master's in Special Education from Georgia State University and a Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College.
The county adopted literacy program Fast Forward is an innovative teaching tool I use that targets all the four langauge domains of speaking, listening, reading and writing. I also teach using the fun program BrainPop ELL. I also use other literacy resources such as Nearpod literacy lessons. I also use Finish Line for ELLs to prepare my students for the ACCESS test.
I am married to Shawn Holly Hurst. We have four children. Their names are Robert Luke Purcell, Liliana Pilcher Hurst, Landon James Hurst and Leyton Brown Hurst. I enjoy teaching ESOL! I also enjoy going to my children's ballgames. I am an Atlanta Braves fan! I look forward to an awesome school year!
