About Me:
I have a large family that includes my husband, Justin, daughters (Henlee, Ella, and Emma) who all attend/have attended CES, son (Matthew), three dogs (Harley, Rosebud, and C.J), 2 horses (Gypsy & Charlie), chickens, and a bearded dragon (Dingo). I have lived in Cedartown my entire life and could not be happier to serve my community through education. Apart from traveling and spending time with my kiddos, my favorite hobby is riding on my husband's motorcycle on scenic day trips!
I am also a softball mom to Henlee (Go Lady Dawgs!), a cheer mom to Ella & Emma (Go HotShots!), and a sponsor/volunteer of the Cedartown Dream League which provides recreational sports opportunies for individuals with special needs (Go Matthew!). I enjoy being present for my kids and cheering them on just like I enjoy being present and cheering on your kids!
Education & Experience:
I graduated from Cedartown High School in 2009. I received my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Liberty University in 2017. In the Spring of 2021, I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education from Reinhardt University. I am once again a student at Berry College pursuing my Education Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, I have a reading endorsement, ESOL endorsement, and look forward to any opportunity to further my own learning in order to reach your students as effectively and intentionally as possible!
I began my career as a special education paraprofessional in 2015 right here as CES, followed by 2 years as a teacher (Science and Math) at Covenant Christian School here in Cedartown. Following this, I spent 1 year at Eastside Elementary, in Rockmart, where I began my journey as a Special Education teacher. I have been lucky enought to teach Special Education here at Cherokee Elementary ever since! I have worked with a number of grade levels from 1st-high school, in the areas of Math, ELA, Science, History, and Spanish, as well as providing special education services through inclusion (co-teaching) and resource. The majority of my teaching experience has been focused in the elementary setting and in the areas of ELA and Math.
My Philosophy:
I believe that each and every student has the potential to achieve his or her goals, and that, as an educator, it is my job to help them do just that. Education is one of the most valuable assets, and I believe that it all starts with strong relationships and foundations within the classroom. Learning starts with loving your students and mutual respect. Students are learning and growing every single day, and we have the amazing opportunity to facilitate that growth through intentional instruction and classroom community.
We have so many resources at our fingertips in today's age thorugh the use of technology. I believe in using student-specific data to set individualized goals and drive instruction. Not only are scores an important part of data, but so is student interest and personalities. Every piece of data should be used to drive instruction so that students are interested and appropriately challenged resulting in those "Ah-ha!" moments!
These kids are our future. It is our job to model good citizenship, kindness, and work ethic. That is my goal every single day as students enter my classroom. As long as they leave my room knowing that I am one of their biggest cheerleaders, then I believe I have done my job.
Important reminders and announcements for our resource room as well as individual messages will be sent through School Status. Please look out for information that will be sent through this platform. Also, please save that number so that you may also reach me via text or phone call.
