February 2020 News

POB Public Young Adult Librarian Heather Greco visted our library to distribute library cards to College Writing and Facing History Classes. Students will use their new cards in class when searching the public library's databases .

December 2019 News

POB JFK HS Library Celebrate's Week Of Code 2020.

Students learned to code using "Intro to App Lab" through Code.org which gave them the chance to code their own app in JavaScript using blocks or text.

November 2019 News

November was a busy month filled with lots of learning.

Students in College Writing, Facing History, and Creative Writing classes as well as 10th and 11th grade English classes were taught how to effectively search our school's databases. Students were also taught how to begin research projects and organize information gathered from databases.

Freshman library orientations wrapped up this month. Students learned all that the POB JFK Library has to offer.

September is Library Card sign up month. Gretchen Browne, Director of POB Public Library, visited our students and distributed library cards to students who didn't have one - 106 to be exact! POB JFK reads!

POB JFK High School promotes summer reading through collaborating with the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library.

It was fun working with Ms. Rollens' College Writing Class using Nearpod. Students were taught how to analyze and evaluate online sources in a fun and interactive way.

March is Women's History Month and we would like to encourage the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of Women in American History.

  • The National Women's History Museum - The National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) researches, collects, and exhibits women's social, cultural, economic, and political history in a context of world history.
  • New York Times Article - 15 Remarkable Women We Overlooked in Our Obituaries.
  • Discovery Education Streaming - A compilation of their content in Women's History.
  • SIRS Database - Women's Rights Timeline, username and password needed.
  • Gale Database Article - Gov. Cuomo Announces Opening of Capitol Exhibit Honoring New York Women in Recognition of Women's History Month. Username and password needed.

The creative students in Ms. Milin-Seltzer's class act out different French fables in POB JFK library.

Ms. Eifert's A.P. Spanish students and Ms. Scully's Public Speaking students record themselves reading picture books via Flipgrid. Their Flipgrids were then shared with POB elementary and middle school students.

Week Of Code at POB JFK HS

Mrs. Bernhardt's Computer Science students analyzing Entry & Exit Poll results for each class that coded.

Plugged in activities were offered through Google Classroom.

Students coding their initials in Binary as an unplugged coding activity. Blue paper strips represent the number 1 and yellow paper strips represent 0. They linked the 8 strips of paper for each initial together to form a paper chain.

Wrapping up a busy October with Mrs. Scully's Public Speaking class. They created book pumpkins to share and read Halloween stories via Flipgrid with elementary students.

Our #WhalesFOrACause wall. For every whale a POB JFK HS student decorates, Simon & Schuster, Vineyard Vines and First Book provide brand new books to children in need.

Librarians conducted 9th grade library orientations and research classes where students learned about the various databases that POB JFK HS has to offer.

Our collaborative tables are great for math calculations!
