Databases

Databases are collections of journal and magazine articles, dissertations, reviews, and abstracts. They provide access to full-text magazine and journal articles. The content is reviewed by experts in the field and the information is organized. They are purchased by the Plainview-Old Bethpage school district for student and staff use.

Passwords are required but the following Widgets may be searched within our district without them otherwise log into your Classlink and use the links from within the "Library Resources" folder. If you have any problems then please see Mrs. Polis in the school library.

Gale In Context: Elementary is a kid-friendly student database, that matches how students naturally navigate online. Elementary school resources give children a safe place to find answers to their questions, practice research skills, and explore interests inside and outside the classroom.

Gale In Context: Middle School is created specifically for middle school students. It combines the best of Gale's reference content with age-appropriate videos, newspapers, magazines, primary sources, and much more. Categories cover a range of the most-studied topics including cultures, government, people, U.S. and world history, literature, and many more.

Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints delivers credible facts and current insight into today’s most debated political and social issues. You’ll find viewpoints, reference articles, videos, and infographics analyzing current events, economics, environmental issues, political science, and more. Use the authoritative coverage within Opposing Viewpoints to build your understanding, and draw your own conclusions about complex issues.

Gale Onefile News: This innovative full-text newspaper resource allows users to search articles instantly by title, headline, date, author, newspaper section, or other fields. Gale OneFile: News provides access to more than 2,300 major U.S. regional, national, and local newspapers, as well as leading titles from around the world. It also includes thousands of images, radio and TV broadcasts and transcripts.

Britannica School: Research on every search topic produces a wide variety of trusted, multi-media sources. Use Britannica School to browse by subject, media type, or weekly rotating content. Choose from three learning levels. Explore Elementary, Middle, and High School, a wealth of unique content, appropriate for each student.

Discovery Ed Streaming Plus

Bring the real world into the classroom with more than video. Discovery Ed Streaming Plus includes curated content and instructional resources that deepens student engagement and extends critical thinking.

    • BrainPop creates animated, curricular content that engages students, supports educators, and bolsters achievement. BrainPop's characters help introduce new topics and illustrate complex concepts. Through the newly launched "My BrainPop," teachers and students can keep a record of learning accomplishments through quizzes, game play, and activities.

    • EBSCO is a collection of six databases and offers the most complete collection of full-text reference resources available for middle schools. This full-text package contains databases designed not only for students, but also for educators.

    • Kids Discover contains over 2,000 interactive science and social studies articles, perfect for elementary and middle school students.
