PHASE TWO
As TrailÂ
Use visible 10 second count in backcourt
Demonstrate appropriate spacing from ball handler (backcourt 2 & 2, frontcourt 0 & 2)
Work the arc as ball moves in the frontcourt from Trail sideline to Lead's PCA and back
Cover off-ball matchups when ball is in Lead's PCA (NOT ball watching)
Use visible 5 second counts in all front court closely guarded situations
As Lead
In transition from Trail to Lead:
Attempt to stay ahead of the players, get to endline, and let play come to you
Look over your shoulder so you can continue refereeing the players
If ball on Lead's side of floor, set up at wide-angle position
If ball on other side of floor, set up at close-down position
Mirror the ball as it moves in the front court
Cover most competitive match-up (action players) when ball is in Trail's PCA (NOT ball watching)
DO NOT watch ball on shots
When ball is shot from Trail's PCA, focus on most competitive rebounding matchup
Continues to work on:
Refereeing the defense
The principle of Legal Guarding Position
Position adjusting to avoid straight-line looks (working to see between offense and defense)
Refereeing shooter/defender matchup until shooter returns to the floor
Looking for most competitive match-up when ball in partner's PCA (avoid ball watching)
