Teaching Philosophy

Every student can succeed when they are provided with encouragement, support, and meaningful learning experiences. My goal as an educator is to create an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions, participating in discussions, and building confidence in their abilities. I recognize that every student learns differently, so I strive to incorporate a variety of teaching strategies, real-world examples, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities that make learning relevant and applicable beyond the classroom.

My teaching experience spans both higher education and career-focused instruction. At South Mountain Community College, I taught Introduction to Human Communication, Group Communication, and Public Speaking, helping students strengthen their communication, leadership, collaboration, critical thinking, and presentation skills. Currently, as a Hybrid Career Preparation Instructor at Pima Medical Institute, I teach First Aid & CPR, Study Skills, Math Fundamentals, Computer Basics, and Anatomy in both classroom and online environments. These courses allow me to prepare students with the academic, technical, and professional skills necessary for success in healthcare and beyond.

My teaching philosophy has also been shaped by more than 16 years of experience in higher education, admissions, academic advising, and behavioral health. These experiences have reinforced my belief that learning extends beyond course content. Every student brings unique experiences, strengths, and challenges into the classroom, and it is my responsibility to create a supportive environment where they feel respected, encouraged, and empowered to succeed. Whether I am teaching communication, mathematics, healthcare fundamentals, or career readiness, my ultimate goal is to inspire confidence, foster lifelong learning, and equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve both their academic and professional goals.
