What do these images have in common?
They are ALL connected to our One School, One Book program!!
Dear Plymouth Shiloh Families:
A One School, One Book program is designed to strengthen home, school, and community connections with literacy activities using a district-wide text. We have chosen Andrew Clements' Frindle as our book to explore this spring. We hope this will promote a culture of reading and discussion across the district.
Each family will receive a copy of Frindle to read at home and keep for your family library. We have recorded chapters you can listen to, or you can choose to read it as a family. Please see the audio links tab for the chapter videos and read aloud links.
Throughout the next 2 months, we hope you will engage with us and the book through the suggested family discussion questions, during various activities including themed dress up days, or explore the library scavenger hunt (the week of April 6th), or at our Frindle celebration (May 6th).
Refer to the calendar and other resources on this site or from your child's teacher for activity details.
Happy reading!

Andrew Clements' FRINDLE is the story of a young boy who engages his teacher in a battle of wills about words. Nick Allen tries to find clever ways to use up class time and avoid doing school work. In the past, he has distracted teachers from their lesson plans by asking questions that require long explanations. However, after he asks Mrs. Granger how words get into the dictionary, he's dismayed to be given extra homework: an essay on the history of the dictionary and the origin of words, which he will have to read out loud in class. Nick writes a report that's cleverly designed, again, to take up class time. When Mrs. Granger tells him his time is up, he pushes back again by saying that though he learned a lot about dictionaries from his research, he still doesn't understand where words come from. Who decides that a dog is called a "dog," for example? "You do," answers his teacher, and this inspires Nick to invent a new word for a familiar object- -- an idea that will disrupt school life far more than even Nick can imagine.
