Take the PSAT 8/9.
Keep your grades up. The first quarter ends soon. Meet with your teachers to see how you can improve any grade that is below a C.
November
Examine your first quarter report cards. What will your first semester grades look like if you keep on this track? Good? Bad? If you are falling behind, what can you do to raise your grades by the end of the first semester?
Meet with your counselor to discuss your grades.
December
Attend a discussion about PSAT 8/9 results with your counselor.
Begin using Khan Academy to prepare for your PSAT 10.
January
Study for your finals. 1st semester report cards come out this month.
Find out what kinds of postsecondary schools offer the education you need to meet your career plans.
Meet with a counselor to discuss where you are at this point in your education. Do you need to retake any classes?
February
Plan to attend Summer School (online classes) to make up any required classes that you may have failed during first semester, or repeat classes when grade was a D.
Advise your counselor if you are thinking about being an early graduate.
Meet with teachers to see how you can improve any grade that is below a C.
Keep practicing for your PSAT 10 on Khan Academy.
March
Register to take the PSAT 10.
Plan next year's program to reflect your interests, school progress, and emerging career plans.
Look into summer enrichment programs.
April
Meet with a counselor to discuss your 3rd quarter report card and any potential ramifications.
Meet with teachers to discuss how to improve your second semester grades.
Remember that you cannot graduate if you are short on credits from failing classes.
May
Visit the College/Career Center for information about summer jobs.
Begin preparing for second semester final exams/projects.
June
Enroll in Summer School (online classes) for any graduation requirement that you may have failed, or repeat any required classes that you received a D in. Failure to make up failed classes will affect graduation status.
Read during the summer to improve comprehension and vocabulary.
Begin researching potential colleges or careers.
Parents
Help your child develop independence by encouraging them to take responsibility for balancing homework with other activities or a part-time job.
