Nursing is a profession that is always advancing in technology and in health research. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how multiple systems of information work. The use of Microsoft is essential for presentations, word documents, excel, and many other systems that help organize data. The use of google docs and email is fundamental for communicating throughout the healthcare system. This includes email insurance policies, sending documents to doctors, communicating with patients, and every aspect of healthcare. As a nurse I will make it my obligation to continue to keep up to date on new technological advancements and make sure I have a concrete understanding of the system I am working with. If I do not understand the system, I will make sure to follow up with workshops aiding my understanding.

During the my first semester of medsurg, I learned how to use resources, patient care technologies and interprofessional strategies to provide a safe nursing environment. Before clinical I would complete the reading that instructed how to perform the assessment as well as the materials provided. It was important to have a basis of knowledge on the equipment so that I did not harm my patients. Knowing how to use the equipment and resources not only improved safety but also included quality documentation. I had to critically think about why I was performing each assessment and interpret the data I found. We also learned how to chart information through the EMR. Below is an example of a careplan that consists of collective data of systems.

While I attended WSU, I was enrolled in a history class. During this class I participated in many research papers, one of which was the effects of Western Medical Practices on the African Nations. While creating a research assignment, I learned how to use the library database and apply it to a critically thought out paper. The use of library database is beneficial because it provides a system of research that as a Nurse will be crucial in evidence-based practice care. Throughout this project I was able to further understand how our practices affect other nations and how to understand multiple different cultures and their medical practices. It is important to note that biochemical medicine is not the only treatment performed in the world. Being able to understand each patient and their background will improve a safe nursing practice in the future.
