Collaboration is defined as "the action of working with someone to produce or create something." As a nurse I will collaborate with my healthcare team to create a positive outcome for each of my patients. The care team incorporates many different professionals that work together and build off of each other’s knowledge and skills. Learning how to incorporate time management, multiple skill sets, and coordination of safety and quality will lead to many new accomplishments in my nursing career.
During my second class of adult medsurg, I was able to obtain core knowledge and competencies essential to apply the nursing process to conditions with individuals undergoing complex variations in health. At the end of this course, I collaborated with my classmates to gather information and evidence on Chronic Kidney Disease. It was essential that took into consideration the interprofessional design, management, and coordination of safe, quality care.
In January 2020, I was blessed to attend a study away program located in Namibia, Africa. Collaboration is essential when traveling abroad starting with planning. Before leaving, we had many conferences about what to expect, rules and regulations, and goals for the trip. Specifically, I was able to volunteer in a maternity ward. During this experience, I learned new knowledge and skills needed to collaborate with a diverse population. I observed different medical practices and learned how to adapt to the culture and new environment. I learned that being able to adapt is essential in collaborating with different staff members. You must observe the environment you are in and adjust your skills/practice as needed.
