The purpose of Credit Recovery is to complete credits necessary for graduation. Students who failed a core course (math, science, history, english), are elligible to participate. The goal is to not retake the class, but fill in the gaps of missing information from taking the class the first time, so that students can earn a high school diploma.
No, you cannot use credit recovery to get ahead in coursework. It is only an option for students who are behind on core class credits.
Students ages 15+ are eligible for credit recovery if they have not passed a class required in order to meet graduation requirements.
Structured Summer Credit Recovery is available to all students, 15 and older.
Flex Summer Independent Study is available to students 16 and older.
The coursework and instruction for both programs are the same. Students will move through online course work, and will have access to a teacher to answer any questions. For structured summer school, students will have set times and dates that students need to attend classes. For flex summer school, students can choose the hours they would like to check in with teachers within the scheduled times provided.
There are 2 built in days you are allowed to miss for structured summer school. If students miss more dates during the structured window, students will not earn credit for the coursework. Students who are 16 or older should consider the flex model instead, and students under 16 should consider participating in summer school the next year.
There are teachers available in both the flex and structured models for students to work with one on one to ask questions and receive clarification. There are also online tutorials that students can reference at any time.
There is an option for transportation for structured summer school only. In order to receive transportation, students must enroll and indiciate their interest prior to May 1st. Bus stops will be assigned based on interest.
Students will have access to coursework using the online program Edmentum. Students will have access to a toolbar tracking their progress at all times. Students also have access to all assignments at one time. Parents/guardians can also reached out to the assigned teacher for updates, but students can log into the program at any time to show parents/guardians their progress.
The programs are all the same in terms of coursework and teacher support, they are just offered at different times throughout the year. Structured Summer School is the only option for students while they are 14 or 15 years of age. Structured has a set schedule with attendance, while Indepdent Study and Summer Flex do not.
Food service is not available in the summer, but some snacks will be provided. Students will have a 10 minute break between each structured session where they may eat.
