Spring 2022 - SWPA Personalized Learning Meet-Up

Want to know more about Personalized Learning? Join regional school leaders who are actively engaged in the SWPA Personalized Learning Network at a social meet-up in the city to discuss the recent work and engagement opportunities around Personalized Learning.

The SWPA Personalized Learning Network along with the Remake Learning Network are co-sponsoring a social happy hour/meetup on May 4, 2022. This personalized learning event will bring together leading educators and administrators in the greater Pittsburgh area for a social gathering at The Foundry Table and Tap. All current SWPA PLN members will be encouraged to reach out and bring new faces to this meetup. The evening will be informal and will lightly explore the recent work and upcoming engagement opportunities centered around personalized learning in the region. We welcome anyone who is interested in joining this powerful conversation about personalized learning and the SWPA PLN Network.

2nd Annual Personalized Learning Leadership Conference -- June 25-26

The SWPA Personalized Learning Network is thrilled to announce our 2nd annual Personalized Learning Leadership Conference, “Transforming Classroom Instruction with Personal and Student-Centered Practices.” We have expanded the event this year! It’s now a two-day program:

· Pre-Conference Workshops and a site visit on Tuesday, June 25, 2019

· Main Conference sessions on Wednesday, June 26, 2019

The program features national thought-leaders like Allison Zmuda, Lydia Dobyns, John Pane and Valerie Truesdale as well as many local leaders from SWPA. Interactive workshops on Instructional Innovation, Leadership, Research & Best Practices, and Enabling Tools & Technologies allow for a deeper dive into each topic with time for peer networking.

The conference will be held at the William Pitt Union on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh and is intended for district and building leadership teams as well as instructional leaders, teachers and coaches.

Local Leadership - Personalized Learning in Action -- May 3, 2019 from 9:00 - 11:30

The Fort Cherry School District was recently recognized as a Title I Distinguished Improvement School. Please join us for a peer networking program with their innovative superintendent, Dr. Jill Jacoby, and her team. The session will include highlights of their Future Focused - Creating Me strategy as well as classroom visits and a student panel discussion.

Three Rivers Educational Technology Conference (TRETC) on November 6, 2018

Jackie Foor (Consortium for Public Education) and Chris Sweeney (PLPGH) led breakout sessions at TRETC. One on the role of collaborative networks and emerging personalized learning strategies, and the other on infusing real-world experiences into Project-Based Learning initiatives. TRETC was held at the Baldwin High School.

IU1 Personalized Learning Workshop -- November 2, 2018 from 9:00am – 12:00pm

Intermediate Unit 1 is partnering with the SWPA Personalized Learning Network to help educators tackle the many changes needed to move to a more student-centered and personalized model. We started the dialogue on how these strategies can help our students. The session included presentations from regional leaders and peer networking discussions.

Regional Leadership Forum -- October 30, 2018 from 8:00 - 11:00am

The SWPA Personalized Learning Network and the North Allegheny School District hosted a regional workshop on strategic transformation. This leadership forum, delivered in partnership with Modern Teacher, included a facilitated dialogue on emerging best practices and strategies to scale personalized and project-based learning.

iNACOL National Symposium on October 21-24

A team including Emily Sanders (New Castle), Janeen Peretin (Baldwin-Whitehall) and Chris Sweeney (PLPGH) led a panel discussion called "Innovation is a Team Sport" at the iNACOL Symposium in Nashville, TN.

KnowledgeWorks Webinar -- October 9, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:30am

KnowledgeWorks, a national thought leader in personalized learning, introduced their District Conditions Navigation Tool, a readiness assessment to help pave the way for the implementation of personalized and project-based learning.

July 23, 2018 -- AltSchool Lunch and Learn

Regional educators learned about the AltSchool model on Monday, July 23rd from Devin Vodicka, former California Superintendent of the Year and a nationally recognized leader in personalized learning. AltSchool is proposing a personalized learning pilot for schools in the Pittsburgh region. Contact Chris Sweeney if you would like more information.

June 26, 2018 -- PLPGH Personalized Learning Leadership Conference - Moving from Theory to Action

200 educational leaders from across SWPA gathered at Montour High School to learn more about how to translate the "theory" into actionable classroom strategies, and to move from pockets of innovation to scale.
