Students who are more engaged while in school are more successful after graduation. Making connections and learning about careers is an important part of the high school experiences. At PV it includes our Career and College Seminar, project-based activities in CTE and Work-Based Learning Activities. We also help make connections to Postsecondary Opportunities such as college & military visits, apprenticeship training center tours and hiring fairs.
College/Military Visits - to help students explore postsecondary options we invite colleges and military for recruitment visits, these are during the school day so students need to sign-up and get permission from the teacher whose class they will miss. These can be small group visits, lunchroom visits or one-on-one visits during your study hall/8th period.
Job Shadows - allow students to get "day in the life" glimpse as well as to observe company culture. Students complete an application. Students have to have completed 3 Level 1 activities. See Student Procedures & Guidelines which includes an application.
Interview & Resume Help - Students can request mock interviews which include one-on-one interviews, panel interviews or virtual interviews. Resumes are changing - companies want to know what you've done and your skills. A general HS Student Resume sample is linked.
Internships & Quality Pre-Apprenticeships - students will hone their technical (job specific skills) and their behavioral competencies (workplace skills). There are pre-reqs for these opportunities as this is a culminating activity.
Jobs & Student Opportunities - The Career Center works with areas schools and local agencies to provide employment connections as well as summer opportunities.
