She taught third-grade for seven years in California before starting a private home tutoring business.
Since moving to the Quad Cities in 2008, Zapolski has operated a private swim school with an emphasis on stroke technique for youth and high school-aged swimmers. Zapolski also works with adults who compete in triathlons. She has coached club-level swimming programs in California, Indiana, and Iowa. Immediately after graduation from Pepperdine, Zapolski served as the Aquatics Director at the Newport-Costa Mesa YMCA from 1991-92 where she coached future gold medalist, Aaron Peirsol, as a youth swimmer.
An exercise enthusiast, Zapolski is an avid biker, runner, and swimmer who remains competitively active in road races and triathlons. She has completed seven marathons and represented Team USA at the 2018 Fyn ITU Aquathlon World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Zapolski and her husband, Mike, have three children--Haley, Luke and Noah.
