The mission of the Pleasanton Unified School District physical education program is to prepare all students to live healthy, productive, and physically active lives. Our quality physical education program will:
provide students with the foundation for making informed decisions that will contribute to their well being
foster character development, and personal and social responsibility
empower students to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle, which is a lifelong process shared by the home, district, and community
Physical Education graduation requirement: 4 semesters
Physical Education at the high school level provides a unique environment to learn appropriate social behaviors and develop physical fitness and skills. Students will:
participate in standards-based activities designed to prepare them to pass the Fitnessgram
continue to improve their fitness level
demonstrate competency in social behaviors appropriate to physical activities
demonstrate continued skill acquisition
realize and experience the benefits of fitness as it relates to academic performance.
PE 1: Required for all freshmen. Includes fitness training, individual and team activities
PE 2: Second year of PE may be chosen from one of the following:
Team Sports - fitness training and team sport activities
Weight Training - muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular strength
Lifetime Fitness - Improve muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular strength and stress reduction through a variety of group exercise modalities; self defense strategies; recreational sports and games
Power Walk/YOGA - benefits, safety, technique, pacing, heart rate monitoring, goal setting, nutrition, fitness technology, community resources, meditative, restorative, strengthening, Vinyasa & Yin, Myofascial Release with massage balls and rollers, Sound healing
Athletic PE - specific strength, speed and skill training for Amador’s JV and Varsity athletes
