HOW TO ENTER
Entry forms must be completed online via the form which can be accessed here. Entry forms must be completed by the artist or their official representatives. Please complete one entry form online for each artwork. You will receive email confirmation of your online entries.
The closing date for entries is Friday, 30 August (midnight EST). Late entries will not be accepted.
Finalists will be notified by September 16, 2024.
Winners will be announced on October 19, 2024.
ENTRY DETAILS AND FEE
The entry fees are $35 per entry, and there is no limit to the number of artworks you can enter. No refund will be given if the artwork is not selected for exhibition or if the artwork is found not to meet our criteria. The artwork will not be judged if an entry fee has not been received in respect of that work.
Artists are required to upload a high-quality, high-resolution image, shot in good light. If the images are not clear, your entry will be rejected. Please upload and label the files with your name and the name of the artwork, e.g., Kate Smith_Outback Still Life. If the file size exceeds 25 MB, we reserve the right to reduce the image before it is sent to the judges. We accept files in the following formats only: .jpg, .tif, .png.
If your entry is selected for inclusion in the finalist exhibition, your artwork will need to be delivered to the PLC Armidale Astra Arts Centre during the assigned finalist artwork delivery period. We will also require an image of the framed work for inclusion in our online gallery.
ELIGIBILITY
PLC Armidale (PLCA) is the organiser of the PLC Armidale Art Prize 2024. It is open to all artists (not photographers) in Australia working in 2D on paper or canvas/board. All ages are eligible to enter.
All works must be the original artwork of the artist and must not be digitally or AI modified.
SIZE AND WEIGHT OF ARTWORK
The dimensions of entries (including frame) must not exceed a total of 1.5 metres in height or width. Diptychs and triptychs must either be entered as a single artwork and comply with these rules or entered as separate artworks. Artworks on paper must be framed. All artworks must be fitted with D-rings and wire, placed 100 mm from the top of the work, and ready for hanging. Artworks not correctly fitted will not be exhibited. A stretched canvas is considered framed if it includes the correct hanging devices on the rear.
PRIZES
The most outstanding artwork of the PLC Armidale Art Prize 2024 will receive the main prize of $6,000, which is an acquisitive prize. Additional prizes include $2,000 for the winner of the Work on Paper category and $2,000 for the winner of the Work on Canvas/Board category. There will also be a People’s Choice Award for each category, which does not include a monetary prize. Winners will be announced on the Awards Night.
The overall winning artwork will be acquired by PLC Armidale and will form part of their collection. The artist retains copyright. PLC Armidale must be acknowledged on any reproduction of the prize-winning work. Consideration of long-term conservation and management issues will be taken into account in the awarding of the PLC Armidale.
EXHIBITION
The selection of finalists is based on the images you supply, and the selection of winners is undertaken by the judges in person in the days just before Opening Night.
EXHIBITION DURATION
The PLC Armidale Art Prize exhibition will open at the PLC Armidale Astra Arts Centre on Saturday, 19 October, and continue online until Friday, 2 November 2024.
PREPARATION OF ARTWORK FOR EXHIBITION
All artworks must be labelled with the artist’s name, address, phone number, title of the work, medium, and price on the back of the painting.
Entries selected for the finalist exhibition must be delivered at the expense of the artist to PLC Armidale, Astra Arts Centre, 15-57 Crest Road, Armidale, NSW. Deliveries must be between 9 - 4pm Tuesday 8 - Friday 11 October, 2024. If artworks are to be delivered by courier – Please inform Dina Floros of your courier via email. Any alternative delivery dates or methods must be previously agreed upon (contact Vanessa Arundale on 0456 521 587). If the work by courier does not arrive by Friday 11 October, at the very latest it will be an automatic disqualification and the work will not be hung.
Artists are responsible for insuring their artworks, if desired. PLC Armidale, however, will use all means possible to handle all artworks with care.
The artist is responsible for paying all freight and insurance costs during the transit of their artworks to and from PLC Armidale.
COLLECTION OF ARTWORKS AFTER EXHIBITION
Artworks may not be removed until after the exhibition closes on Friday, 2 November 2024. Collection of unsold artwork either in person or by carrier may be made between Monday, 4 November – Friday, 8 November, 2024, between 9am and 5pm. No artworks will be stored beyond November 8th due to storage limits. PLC Armidale will not be responsible for works not collected by this period.
Artists must collect their works at their own cost. If artworks are to be collected by courier, artists must organise the courier and advise PLC Armidale of all details, including the name of the courier company and approximate time and date for collection.
SALE OF ARTWORKS
Artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited in the PLC Armidale Astra Arts Centre.
All artworks must be for sale. PLCA will deduct a commission of 33.33% from the sale price of sold artworks. PLCA will not share the commission with other galleries. Payment will be made to the artists within four weeks after the end of the exhibition when PLCA has received payment for the given artwork. PLCA reserves the right to curate the exhibition in any way it sees fit, taking into account the moral rights of the artist. The overall winning artwork will be acquired by PLC Armidale and will form part of their collection. All profits from the Signature Art Prize competition and exhibition will go to our Scholarship Foundation.
COPYRIGHT
Artists selected as finalists will allow images of their artworks to be reproduced for non-commercial purposes, on a non-exclusive basis, by print and digital media in the advertising and promotion of the PLC Armidale Art Prize. This will remain in place for 18 months from 30 June 2024 . We respect the copyright of the artist, and all moral rights will be asserted. Artists who provide their website, Facebook, and/or Instagram details agree that these may be used in promoting and marketing the PLC Armidale Art Prize 2024 and going forward.
PLC Armidale reserves the right to photograph works exhibited in the PLC Armidale Art Prize for the purpose of documentation and promotion. As part of the conditions of acquisition of the winning work, the winning artist will grant license to PLC Armidale to reproduce the image of the painting in electronic and printed forms (e.g., for online inclusion as part of the College’s collection) and for general publicity purposes. The artist will maintain copyright over all commercial reproductions of their winning painting. All necessary acknowledgements of authorship will be duly made.
Finalists allow PLC Armidale (and its partners and sponsors) a fee-free, non-commercial, non-exclusive licence to reproduce the submitted work in material form, to photograph, publish and/or share it to the public, for prize related purposes such as: marketing, publicity, educational and publication uses, the prize exhibited in all media, including print, digital and broadcasting media, and anything incidental such as visitor social media use. Photography within the exhibition will be allowed.
Finalists allow PLC Armidale perpetual licence for its archival purpose.
11.1 If the artwork is selected as the PLC Armidale Art Prize winner or the other awards:
The artists agree to grant PLC Armidale a non-commercial Sole Licence to reproduce their work in the material form for prize related purposes and for the promotion of the PLC Armidale collection.
Where reasonable and if given appropriate notice the artist agrees to be available for the promotion and publicity related to the winner announcement and the exhibition.
PLC ARMIDALE PRIVACY POLICY
The personal details requested on the entry form will only be used for the purpose of processing your entry, keeping records, and establishing your identity in accordance with the PLC Armidale Privacy Policy.
INTERPRETATION OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
In the event of a dispute regarding the interpretation of terms and conditions, the decision of PLC Armidale shall be binding on all parties.
FORCE MAJEURE
