Build a Duck Activity -- website to Build a Duck
You can do this activity as individuals, pairs or small groups. Give the students each a packet of 6 legos (as described on the website). Give them 2 minutes to build their duck, then compare what their ducks look like. As an alternative, have them build as many ducks as possible in 5 minutes. If possible, take a picture of each duck to document the duck to compare among groups.
Ask the students questions to get them discussing communication and this activity.
1. Did all the groups build the exact same duck(s)?
2. How many variations of ducks were built?
3. Are some ducks better than others?
4. Was it easier to build as individuals or with someone else?
5. What else could you build with these Legos?
6. How did this stretch your creativity?
This advertisement shows how things can go wrong when you aren't communicating well.
After showing the video, ask questions about communication barriers and when communication breaks down. Have the students do a Think, Pair, Share on a miscommunication they have had. Have the students write a scenario of what happens when people miscommunicate at work, at home, at school, on a team and how to solve communication issues.
This website is filled with GREAT articles and ideas to help people be memorable and stand out in the business world or while interviewing for a job
