This is time for students to get extra help with academic areas of concern.
There are many things that students can be doing during Academic time:
Students could go to work with another teacher (with a pass) on academics
Students could treat it as a study hall and work on school work
Students could use the time to check their email / grades on Power School
Freshmen and Sophomores could explore Colleges and Careers
Seniors could explore College Applications and Scholarships
Juniors and Seniors could study for ASVAB if they have not passed ISTEP+ / ASVAB.
SMART teachers can use their roster to do a grade check and have conversations with students that are missing work or falling behind in their classes.
Several reminders for students and teachers:
Working with your students on Academics
Teachers will provide a pass to students who will be working with them during SMART Academic time. This will allow a student to leave their SMART classroom.
If a teacher is working with individual students or a small group on academics, then they keep their SMART group in your room.
If they have a larger group coming to work, then the teacher emails Mr. Schwanekamp and the SMART group goes to the cafeteria.
We don’t want students in the hallways once academic time has begun.
Media Center
When sending students to the media center during SMART time, please remember to send them with a pass.
