Level 3 Programming
Elementary students who are identified for Parkway's gifted education, MOSAICS, level 3, are pulled from the regular classroom for 150 - 250 minutes per week, depending on the total caseload of identified gifted students at each grade and/or school. The curricular strands of complex reasoning, creative thinking, and affective processing are differentiated through multi-disciplinary programming to meet the needs of identified students. MOSAICS gifted education specialists assist classroom teachers in modifying curriculum to meet the needs of gifted students within the setting of the regular classroom through strategies for compacting the curriculum and differentiation. 1st grade students will begin 4th quarter.
The MOSAICS gifted program at the middle school level is a scheduled course for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students identified for the gifted program. In middle school MOSAICS meets on a rotating A/B schedule opposite of PE. MOSAICS is considered a course. The curricular strands of affective processing, creative thinking, and complex reasoning incorporate differentiated and multi-disciplinary programming to meet the needs of identified students. Scoring guides are used for summatives for projects/units. All students will earn a letter grade for gifted. Curriculum is based on the Missouri Gifted Learner Outcomes (MO-GLOs) and earn a letter grade. Gifted is not a required course or needed to take honors or AP classes at the high school.
