Self Portraits

Only a few portraits of Mary which were made during her lifetime survive. Contemporary accounts record that she was tall, over 6ft, and striking in appearance, with auburn hair and brown eyes.

In her time there were no cameras and so painters would be hired to paint a portrait. Mary would have had to sit for many hours without moving to allow the painter time to capture her image.
