Advisory, Learning Studios, Freshman Seminar, and Extended Learning Opportunities
PMHS offers students many pathways to earn credit. Curriculum documents differ for these opportunities.
Advisory
Advisory is a required course for all students, and high school advisory offers 0.25 credits per year. High school students remain with their advisory and advisor for all four years of high school. Grade 7 and grade 8 students remain with their advisories and advisor for the two years of middle school. Grade 6 students conduct Morning Meeting with their homeroom.

Learning Studios and Seminars:
The Learning Studio block is offered on Wednesdays for about an hour. During Learning Studio time, all seventh grade students take Grade 7 Seminar, and all first year grade 9 students take Freshman Seminar. All other students select a learning studio. Learning Studios are opportunities for students to pursue a common interest. They are meant to be student-led, experiential learning activities which culminate in an authentic product that is presented at Winter Showcase or Exhibition. The teacher provides facilitation support as the students decide how to best pursue the learning. Students can often earn 0.25 credits per year, but many students take learning studios for enrichment only.
Grade 7 Seminar and Freshman Seminar help students build skills needed to be effective students, such as executive functioning skills, use of digital tools, and skills for working with others. These are for enrichment, not course credit.

Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) and Independent Studies
ELOs and Independent Studies are designed for individual students. ELOs commonly involve community mentors, while independent studies are typically mentored by PMHS educators. Both require a high degree of student independence and executive functioning skills. Both involve developing a learning and assessment plan, including presentation of a final authentic assessment product. Both are commonly taken for credit or competency recovery within courses, and therefore involve final assessment by a certified teacher with a related endorsement. Students may have scheduled time during the school day.
Summer Academies: Some of the 1-2 week summer academy experiences may be offered for credit or competency recovery support. Experiences vary each summer. Most are free to attend, but students will need to provide their own transportation to and from PMHS.
Community Service: PMHS requires students to earn 40 hours of community service to graduate. Consider exploring options in earlier grades, then turning those community service interests into learning studios, job shadows, ELOs, independent studies, and internships as you reach grades 11 & 12!
Concord Regional Technical Center (CRTC):The state of NH created several technical centers around the state. We are part of the region that sends students to the Concord Regional Technical Center. Students on pace for graduation may apply to CRTC to earn 2.0 credits as part of their school day. Usually the program accepts juniors and seniors, but sophomores may occasionally attend. PMHS provides transportation to and from CRTC, but most second year students will need to provide their own transportation to PMHS to board their CRTC bus before the PMHS school day starts. Students usually miss a little over two periods of the PMHS school day, including Wednesday PMHS classes.
