Design Policy
All ads are prepared by yearbook students according to design principles and standards that have been established by the yearbook adviser.
The students who prepare the ad will make every effort to accommodate the buyer’s instructions. If the buyer’s instructions conflict with the established design principles and standards, the principles and standards take priority of the buyer’s instructions.
The yearbook staff makes every effort to ensure that the buyer’s ad reflects the buyer’s wishes. Because this is a class comprised of students in the 10th – 12th grades, errors occasionally do result. Refunds for incorrect ads will not be issued. By signing this contract and purchasing the ad, the buyer recognizes the possibility of mistakes and agrees with the conditions listed.
Content Restrictions
The yearbook adviser reserves the right to reject photographs or text that is considered inappropriate for a school publication.
Ads may not (1) show, refer to or suggest the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substances; (2) show, refer to, or suggest nudity, sexual acts, or vulgarity; (3) contain statements deemed vulgar, harassing, or threatening by the yearbook adviser or principal.

Should a student &/or school personnel die during the coverage period, the Valkyrian staff will treat the death in the most practical, tasteful and respectable manner possible. The school portrait of the person will appear as it would under normal circumstances.
If deadline allows, we will create a tribute in the ad section or index area of the yearbook for the person(s).
In the event of a student or faculty death, prior to the yearbook’s publication (mid-April) and with permission of the family, the yearbook staff will create a memorial ad that will include the student’s photo, birth and death dates and the words, “In Memory.” The advisor will work with the family and DHC guidance counselors on approval of the ad before the yearbook goes to print.
The ad will run in the current year’s yearbook. It is 1/2 of a page in size or 1/4 page if space does not allow for 1/2 page.
Parents have the opportunity to purchase a senior ad for the year the student would have graduated. This ad will run in the senior ad section or the index, depending on where space allows.
