STEM Coordinator Job Description and Look Fors
Wellcome Middle continues to use the same process when recruiting, hiring, and training teachers:
Teachers are recruited from the Teach for America program and Participate Learning
The interview process for the STEM Coordinator and teachers, asks potential hires questions regarding STEM to determine high-quality STEM instructional skills and the relationship to STEM and other subjects.
Throughout the year, teachers have training and support to build STEM instructional skills including STEM committee meetings, AVID trainings, and Teach for America trainings.
Teachers at Wellcome Middle School were given the STEM Teacher Continuum so that teachers could share where they are with STEM education and where they hope to be. The STEM Coordinator can take this information and find a focus point for the year so those teachers on the lower end (Early or Developing) can receive the support so they move toward Proficient or Accomplished. It also lets the STEM Coordinator know which teachers can move into leadership roles at the school for STEM education.
