Progress Rubric Look-Fors: A school leadership team has crafted a robust STEM Education Plan within the School Improvement Plan. The STEM Education Plan documents realistic and creative strategies, near-term outcomes, and an ultimate vision. It thoroughly addresses the 5 Overarching Principles of the NC STEM School Progress Rubric.
In the creation of the STEM Education Plan within the School Improvement Plan, input and buy-in was gained from an advisory council of more than one student, teacher, administrator, parent, business/industry professional, and community college/college/univeristy professional.
The STEM Education Plan within the School Improvement Plan contains specific sustainability plans to maintain STEM Education for at least the next 3-5 years.
The STEM Education Plan at Wellcome Middle School was developed through a comprehensive and collaborative process led by the leadership team. In partnership with the district STEM Director, the STEM Coordinators at Eastern Elementary, Lakeforest Elementary, C.M. Eppes Middle School, and Innovation Early College High School, the Wellcome STEM/AVID Team, the Business Advisory Council, and the Jr. STEM Crew, the leadership team engaged in ongoing cycles of creation, review, and refinement to ensure the plan is both strategic and forward-thinking. This advisory council represents a diverse and authentic cross-section of stakeholders, multiple students, teachers, administrators, parents, and business/industry professionals, ensuring meaningful input and full community buy in.
The resulting STEM Education Plan articulates a clear, ambitious long-term vision supported by innovative yet achievable strategies and measurable near-term outcomes. It thoroughly addresses all five Overarching Principles of the NC STEM School Progress Rubric and is fully integrated into the Wellcome Middle School Improvement Plan to ensure coherence and alignment with the school’s broader goals.
To maintain momentum and growth, the plan includes specific sustainability structures designed to support STEM education at Wellcome Middle School for at least the next 5 years. These include ongoing professional development cycles, scheduled plan reviews, strategic community partnerships, and systems that ensure leadership continuity and program stability. Through this collaborative and intentional approach, Wellcome Middle School remains committed to fostering a strong, sustainable, and innovative STEM culture for all students.

Note: Pitt County Schools is currently revising the district's Strategic Plan. I have attached the current strategic plan and our profile of a learner graphic that help us to align our STEM goals. Our STEM Education Plan is directly aligned with the district's mission and vision and will be reevaluated once the new strategic plan is finalized.
