Course Overview:The course will examine major regions of the world in regard to their geography, history, and their current culture. The course emphasizes the forces that have shaped our current world and attempts to help students understand their role in a global community. Students will also demonstrate proficiencies in a wide variety of Social Studies skill areas. The content is geared toward the modern world with the goal that students will be able to appreciate other cultures and their role in a global society.

Grade 10: United States History I “The Americans”-Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (2012)

Course Overview: In United States History 1 we will be exploring the emergence of the United States as an independent country and eventual superpower on the international stage. We will examine how the country evolved from a colonial holding of Great Britain in the 18th century to its expansion into a world power by the early part of the 20th century. Throughout this span of time we will analyze the United States from multiple perspectives and look closely at both the positive and negative events that have come to characterize this era of American history.

Course Overview: This course is organized to familiarize the student with United States history from 1930 to present. The units studied are: the Depression, New Deal, World War II, Holocaust studies, Communism, the Cold War, Minority studies, and the Domestic and Foreign Policies of the 1960s, 70s, 80s and current world problems. Oral presentations, independent projects and discussion groups are an integral part of the class.
