MEMORIAL School Counselor's Corner

Welcome to the Pitman Memorial School Counselor's Corner!

My name is Cindy Thompson, and I am ecstatic to be the School Counselor at Pitman Memorial School. I am also the 504 Officer and Anti- Bullying Specialist. In an effort to stay connected during these challenging times, I have added additional resources to support your child and family. Please continue to check back for additional information. If there is something you or your child needs assistance with, please do not hesitate to email or call and leave a voicemail as it is connected to my email. Throughout the school year, I will be checking my email throughout the day. I will try and get back to you within the same day.

Please give your kiddo a big hug as I miss seeing their smile each day. I look forward to when we can be back in school together.

A Little About Me...

It has been a privilege to work for the Pitman School District since 1998. I graduated from Rowan University in 1997 with a Bachelors of Art degree in Special Education and a reading certification. In 2003, I graduated from Wilmington University with my Master's Degree in School Counseling.

I reside in Gloucester County with my husband and two children.

I am committed to developing and implementing counseling and guidance programs to ensure the highest quality of services for students at Pitman Memorial School. The focus of the School Counselor is to help students acquire those personal and social skills which are necessary to become successful, responsible, and civic-minded members of our society.

What is SEL?

SEL, as defined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional, Learning (CASEL) is “the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”

We use the the five pillars from the NJ Social and Emotional Learning Competencies and Sub Competencies (see below) to assist our children in recognizing their emotions, understanding how those emotions may or may not impact their decisions, goal setting, responsible decision making, and having positive relationships. These skills and others are taught through a myriad of ways.
