1) Our class will be built on mutual support and respect. Everyone has a right and responsibility to be heard. Teachers have a right to teach, and students have the right to learn. Disrespectful or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
2) Arrive to class on time with necessary materials. This includes your textbook, your notebook, your calculator (TI-84 Plus is recommended) and a pencil or pen.
3) When you arrive to class, take out any materials that you know you will need for the class. You can count on needing to have your notebook and a pen or pencil out on a daily basis.
4) You may take notes in your notebook in any way that you feel works best for you. If you need help developing a system that works for you, I will be happy to suggest some note taking strategies. Your notes notebook may be collected periodically for a quiz grade. If you do your homework in your notes notebook, do not use a page that you have taken notes on, as you may be asked to turn in your homework.
5) Assignments should be completed and ready to be handed in at the beginning of the class they are due. Assignments turned in late without acceptable reason will be penalized.
6) Your homework will be checked daily and you will receive a weekly homework grade. In addition, any assignment may be collected and graded as a quiz.
7) Cheating and lying will not be tolerated. Cheating on any homework, test or quiz may result in a grade of zero.
8) Any work missed due to absence is to be made up within five days upon your return. If you are absent it is your responsibility to obtain and complete missed work! Any work not made up in a timely manner will be recorded as late and may result in a grade of zero. If you know in advance that you will be missing class, please let me know so we can create a plan that allows you to make up missed work as easily as possible.
9) All major tests will be announced in advance. Quizzes may or may not be announced. You may also have papers or projects to complete over the course of the year.
10) Your grade will be determined by a point system. Most tests will be worth 100 points. Pop quizzes will be worth 10 points. Announced quizzes will be between 10 and 50 points. Collected homework assignments will be worth 10 points. Papers or projects will be assigned an appropriate point value. Your grade will be determined by dividing the number of points earned by the total possible points.
11) While participation is not directly part of your grade, your participation is essential to the success of the class. This is your class, so make sure your voice is heard.
12) In accordance with school policy:
a. You must have a pass when leaving the room.
b. No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom.
c. Texting is not permitted in class. Cell phones need to be off and put away.
