Citizenship and work habits/study skills concerns are recorded in the Parent Communication Log. This log is sent home daily in AVID binders. Please review the log daily. This is a great opportunity to acknowledge, reinforce, and provide positive feedback to your child.

Work Expectation in the Classroom

We have high expectations for your child and we will do all that we can to help your child achieve those expectations.

You can help.

Your help and support will not only make your child more successful in school this year but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.

Homework

Homework is an extension of the school day and should reinforce what students have learned. Homework should help students practice and master concepts, and to develop effective study habits. Other subjects will be evaluated for student need and will be communicated when implemented. Homework is not recorded as a grade at the elementary level.

  • Homework time expectations are as follows 100 minutes reading per week.
  • Students record the minutes in the planner in their AVID binder. This log is to be signed weekly by a parent on the back of the parent communication log

PBIS/SEL

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Token Economy

The purpose of a school wide PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm. Teaching behavior expectations and rewarding students for following them is a much more positive approach. A student driven token economy will be established the at the beginning of the school year, starting our fourth graders on a path to a great year.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social emotional learning is an educational process through which skills for life effectiveness are intentionally taught and modeled in a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive environment.

School policy is that parents are not allowed in the classroom for birthday celebrations. Students should not bring balloons, flowers or goody-bags for their celebration.

Snacks/Hydration

Students may bring a healthy, workable snack daily. Water bottles are allowed with water only.

field trips and volunteers

Field Trips

Fourth grade has two (2) field trips in the school year. One to the Holifield Science Learning Center (HSLC) in the Fall and the second to the Eisemann Center in the Spring.

Please consider being a chaperone on the Holifield Science Learning Center.

You must have a background check complete through PISD prior to the trip otherwise you will not be able to accompany us.

Unfortunately we do not require chaperones to the Eisemann Center.
