About Mr. Lockwood
I am so excited for my second year as the physical education teacher at Piper Prairie Elementary. My family and I have lived in the Piper area since 2010. My wife, Shannon, and I have four children that attend(ed) Piper schools. Grant Lockwood graduated in 2022, and Emily (Bug) Lockwood graduated in 2024. Both attend the University of Kansas. Anneliese Lockwood is a senior, and Benson Lockwood is an 8th grader.
I have been a Jayhawk from day one. My father was an athlete, coach and professor at KU. I was a high jumper on the KU track team and a student assistant coach from 1985-89. In 1989 I tried out and made the USA national Team Handball team, where I played internationally for 2 years before starting my teaching career.
This year is my 35th year of teaching, and 3rd year at Piper. I will also assist coaching the high school cross country, middle school 7th grade girls basketball, middle school pole vault, and my original position as Jumps and pole vault coach for the high school track team.
I want to thank all the Piper teachers, and my Piper village that have helped (and is still helping) me raise my 4 kids. It is a blessing to be able to teach in my community.
