Grades

Your course grade will be based on class participation (online, in various formats), quizzes, lecture (or "midterm") exams, laboratory activities, and a final (cumulative) exam.

Methods of Evaluation

  • See Canvas for all due dates!

Please note: your grades will always be available to you on Canvas. From our Canvas course homepage, simply click on the "Grades" link in the left-hand global navigation menu. Please check your grades often. You should always know where you stand in the class.

  • Lecture Exams 30%

  • Final Exam 20%

  • Quizzes 15%

  • Participation 10%

  • Laboratory 25%

Laboratory Experiments/Activities are 30 Points Each

Most labs will have a 15 point quiz, a report/data tables work 10 points, and a post lab assignment worth 5 points

There are a few exceptions to this, which will be communicated within the assignment details given on Canvas.

Final course grade

Your lowest lecture exam grade, your lowest experiment score, and your lowest two quiz scores will be dropped for final scoring of grades. An exception to the lowest dropped score in any category is if you earned a 0 on any item because of any incident of Academic Dishonesty. Final scores are used in a class-wide linear fit to determine final grade (a “curve”).

Your letter grade will be assigned as follows:
