The annual Philip Wright Awards honor a legacy created by Mr. Wright in his commitment to improving educational services for students with disabilities. Each school system in the Pioneer RESA region selects an individual who demonstrates the service, commitment, and advocacy qualities exemplified by Mr. Wright. These individuals continue to serve as a shining light in their community for children with disabilities.
In 1979, Philip Wright accepted the position of Child Service Coordinator at North GLRS. Mr. Wright worked tirelessly to develop multiple programs, interagency systems, and regional mental health centers that could offer comprehensive, multi-agency support to families. His many years of service were cut short by Mr. Wright's vision loss from an incurable eye disease. Philip Wright retired in 2001, but his legacy remains. Mr. Wright attends the Philip Wright Awards Ceremony each year as an honored guest.
