Ms. Scism's 3rd Grade - Weekly Update

Updates for 9/2/26

Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Devine Reptiles - Our in-house field trip with Devine Reptiles is on September 24th. Permission slips and money are due by September 11th.

Lunch - Please make sure you are sending a lunch or have ordered catered lunch for your child every day. We eat lunch from 11:45 - 12:15.

Beginning of Year Testing - We have completed our Beginning of Year testing! I am so proud of how hard your kiddos worked!! The results of this testing will be shared at September Conferences.

Uniform Reminders - Students must wear a belt daily unless wearing a dress or skirt.

Our admin team also sent out a reminder for us to share with you that backpacks cannot have any keychains, hand sanitizer, or stuffed animals on them per our handbook. They can be on inside zippers but not clipped to the outside.

Updates for 8/19/26

Good afternoon parents,

Devine Reptiles - Your child brought home a field trip form for our in-house field trip with Devine Reptiles. This in-house field trip will take place on September 24th. Devine Reptiles of Charlotte, North Carolina, provides students with a unique, hands-on learning experience as part of our animal unit. During this special program, Devine Reptiles will bring approximately nine different reptile species to our school. Over the course of 45 minutes to one hour, students will learn about each reptile’s characteristics, habitat, and behaviors, as well as gain a deeper understanding of animal classification. This interactive presentation offers students the rare opportunity to observe and engage with animals they may not typically encounter, making science come alive in a memorable and meaningful way. The cost for students is $5 and it is due by 9/11/26.

Homework - Please make sure your child is completing the math homework nightly along with reading 20 minutes. In addition to the assigned homework, they need to study the spelling words and practice their multiplication facts (once we start multiplication) as needed. Homework assignments are in the red folder your child brings home daily. Homework is also listed on my webpage.

3rd Grade Curriculum Night - We are having our 3rd Grade Curriculum Night this Thursday, August 20th at 6:00pm in the K-3 Gym. We really hope you plan on attending as we review some very important information regarding all things 3rd grade!

BOG - This Thursday, August 20th your child will take their BOG. Please ensure your child is getting enough sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, and ready to give their best effort! It is important to remember that students are not meant to know everything on the BOG. The purpose of the BOG is to see what students do know and to measure growth when compared to the EOG that students take at the end of the year. To help keep anxiety down I encourage you to have conversations with your students about trying their best and giving it their all, because that's all that matters.

Flat Me - Also please make sure to send the self addressed stamped envelope to school by 9/2/26. We will be mailing these together as a class and will be waiting for our packages to arrive at school. The children are always excited when the packages arrive.
