During this unit of our Grade 2 Reading Mastery program (Workbook A), students will continue building strong reading skills while growing in confidence and understanding.
Students will work on:
Reading fluency and accuracy – reading smoothly, accurately, and with confidence.
Phonics and word reading – using letter sounds and word-reading skills to read new words.
Vocabulary – learning new words and understanding what they mean.
Reading comprehension – understanding what they read, remembering details, and answering questions.
Literary understanding – exploring characters, settings, events, and important details in stories.
Language and sentence skills – strengthening sentence understanding and language skills.
Written responses – responding to what they read using words and sentences.
Throughout Workbook A, students will review and practice previously learned skills while gradually becoming more independent readers.
The Goal: to help students become confident, accurate, and fluent readers who understand and enjoy what they read.

HOMEWORK AND UNFINISHED WORK
Students are encouraged to:
Read for 20 minutes each night to build fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of reading.
Participate in our monthly reading challenges to make reading fun and encourage students to explore different books.
Use their Math Practice Book for independent practice at home or for additional support with concepts they may need more practice with. This practice is simply a resource to help students grow and build confidence in math.
Any additional reading passages or math practice pages that are sent home are for your student's benefit to practice at home. These are not collected or graded.
My goal is always to support students while helping them build responsibility and good work habits. If a student does not finish guided practice, whole-group work, or classwork during the time provided in class, it may be sent home to be completed.
Tests, quizzes, and graded assignments will not be sent home. Students are expected to complete these assessments within the time provided. If a student skips a question on an assessment, they will not be able to go back and complete it later for a different grade.
The goal is never to overwhelm students with work at home, but rather to provide opportunities for practice, independence, and continued growth. Thank you for working with me to support your child's success!
