Weekly news & Upcoming events 

Week of 4/29-5/3   

• Letterland:

This week students will continue to learn about the “Vowel Stealers” and will be introduced to the following sounds: /er/ (as in ever), /ur/ (as in fur) and /ir/ (as in bird). We will continue to read and answer comprehension questions from our “Scott” reader.

• Listening & Learning:

We will continue Domain 11: Taking Care of the Earth. This week students will learn about ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Please use the information that will be sent home to review with your child. Our Domain 11 Assessment will be on Monday, May 13th.

• Ready Math:

Our Unit 7 Shapes Test will be on Monday, April 29th.

We will begin our unit on Measurement. This week students will learn to compare objects by length and by height. Students will compare the lengths and heights of objects in pictures as well as actual objects.   

• Sight Words:

The following sight words will be introduced this week: know, may, again, people, walk. Students will be assessed on ALL 20 Golf Ball words this Friday, May 3rd. 

• Writing:

We will begin informative writing this week. Students will practice writing about a given topic using capital letters at the beginning of each sentence, spaces between words, and punctuation at the end of each sentence.  

R.E.D Folders

This week we will begin sending home a book with your child in their R.E.D (Read Every Day) folder. Please look over all the information in the folder. Your child should read EACH night. When you feel like your child can read the book fluently, please sign the reading log and send the folder and book back to school. 

i-Ready at Home

Please be sure your child is getting on reading and math i-Ready at home. We ask that they complete 20 minutes of reading and math each week as part of their homework.

•  May 24th - Kindergarten End-of-Year Program 9:00am in the K-3 Gym—More details will be sent soon!

•  May 24th - Last Day—Early Release @11:30am

Parent-Teacher Communication

A large percentage of our general information will be sent home this year by email.  Please be sure that you have provided an email address that you check on a regular basis.  We will also post important school and classroom information on our class webpage, so please plan to check there as well! Feel free to email, call or write a note if you ever have a question or concern.  Thank you so much!
