Reading: In the upcoming lessons, students will master the sound combination: ar. Students will practice making predictions about stories and answering comprehension questions. We will continue to review all consonant sounds, long and short vowel sounds, and the following team sounds: th, sh, wh, ch, ing, er, qu, oo. Students will be given a Reading Assessment on Monday, September 14th.
Spelling: Students will receive a Spelling List with the following words: is, ran, has, bat, that, car, tar, arm, this, them. The spelling test will be on Friday, September 18th.
Writing: We will continue our “Student of the Day” writing. Each day we will write about a different “secret” student. We will continue to focus on sentence structure; begins with a capital letter, spaces between words, and punctuation.
Listening and Learning: Students will finish the Human Body unit turning in their projects on Monday, September 14th. Test on Tuesday, September 15th. Students will begin the domain Different Lands, Similar Stories. It will introduce your students to three themes in fairy tales and folktales that have been told to children for generations, using variations from different lands or countries. By listening to these stories, students will increase their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, be exposed to different places and cultures from around the world, and learn valuable universal lessons.
Math: This week students will practice solving addition and subtraction in word problems. Lesson 5 quiz will be Friday, September 18th.
Sight Words: Please practice these words each night. The Baseball Words Assessment will be on Wednesday, September 30th.
