Week of October 26th- October 30th
Weekly Goals
Meeting the weekly goals will help ensure that your child stays on track and is ready for 1st grade at the end of the school year.
Goals for the week of 10/26-10/30
Writing: I can write my first and last name independently.
Literacy: I can read Tod's Pot.
Math: I can sequence numbers 0-10.
Rainbow Words
On October 12th, all students received set 2: (orange). Students were expected to have all of their Red Rainbow Words (set 1) memorized by October 9th. Students are expected to have all of their Orange Rainbow words memorized by November 6th. All students will recieve set 3 (yellow) on Monday, November 9th.
Rainbow words (sight words) are commonly found in beginning reading passages and are typically not decodable. These are the words that we will be memorizing. Students will begin with red words, and will move on to the next color in the rainbow once all of the words are memorized. The rainbow words are located in the pouch inside of your child's homework folder. Please practice a few of these words with your child each night.
Letterland
We will be identifying the short and long sound for the letter Oo. We will practice blending and segmenting CVC words.
iReady Math
Our math lessons will focus on making groups of 10. Our math goals for this week are: making sets of groups with sums to 10, comparing numbers within 10 and identifying which numbers are greater/smaller. We will also continue to work on developing an instant recognition of groups 0 to 10, recognizing numbers 0-10, and writing numbers 0-10.
Classroom Reader
Tod's Pot
Students will receive individual readers in the pocket pouch of their homework folders to practice reading at home. We would love to have parent volunteers to read with students during our centers time each day from 12:15-12:50 (immediately following lunch). If you are interested, please make sure to complete the volunteer request form and background check.
Domain
This week we will be completing our Continent Domain. Our Domain Assessment will be on Wednesday, October 28th. For this assessment, students will be asked to identify each continents on a map and select the appropriate matching symbol for each continent.
Writing
This week we will continue writing our first and last names from memory. Students will continue to have a visual to copy from, but we are encouraging students to write as much as they can from memory and only use the visual if needed.
We are remembering to only capitalize the first letter of our names (that letter is the line leader/boss of our names). We are working on writing all of our letters and numbers from "top to bottom, left to right" and "keeping their hiney on the liney" (writing on top of the line).
We will also continue our Directed Drawing Unit. Students will be asked to illustrate a simple picture using directed drawing and label the drawing by copying a word. The Directed Drawing Assessment is Wednesday, October 28th.
Homework
Please read with your child each day and assist your child with completing the nightly homework.
