To wrap up the end of our study of Early Asian Civilization, our class will enjoy a Chinese New Year celebration next Wednesday, October 15, from 12:15 to 2:15.
The color red is a sign of good fortune and happiness. If possible, please have your student wear their red PCA shirt on Wednesday.
Certain fruits represent good fortune, wealth, work success (includes school work), harmony, etc.
Another Chinese tradition is to give red envelopes with money inside to represent good fortune in the New Year. I'll provide the money to go in the envelope. Here is a link for the envelopes: Red Chinese Envelopes for 2025 Snake Lunar New Year.
We will play Chinese Bingo and have a craft / activity. Small bingo prizes (pencils, erasers, candy, etc) would be great! Everyone will be a winner.
Another tradition is giving a gift. A small Mystery Item: fidget, squishy, playdoh, etc (check out Five Below for a box of inexpensive items). One gift per student (25). If you can wrap with a red tissue paper or drop off to me earlier in the week and I will wrap them.
Please click on the Sign Up Genius below to review the available slots for the celebration.

October Reading Challenge
We’re Growing a Pumpkin Patch!
For this month's reading challenge students are encouraged to read at least 4 books with their family and return their reading “pumpkins” back to their teacher.
Our goal will be to read 100 books for this challenge. To begin this month’s challenge see below!
All you have to do is read as many books with your family as you can beforeOctober 30th! As a class we will see how many books we can read to read and track our progress right outside our classroom door!
Each student will receive individual tokens in their folder each week to fill out with the name of each book they read. Please write the title and author of each book on the front of the token, your student’s name, and initial that they haveread this book to you! Then return in your student’s Black Folder daily for them to add to our wall!
If we are able to complete our challenge of 100 books then we will have a special pumpkin treat on Halloween!
