We had to get into groups of 4 or 5 and, using only straws and 2 feet of tape, build a structure. The tower had to stay up without touching anything.
Brainstorm: Our first idea was to use a log-cabin type structure. Then, someone thought of pushing one straw into another to make it longer.
Procedure: To start off, our group built a log-cabin base. Then, we took the elongated straws and pushed them against the "walls" of the base. Eventually, we were just sticking more and more straws into our creation to make it taller.
SOUL Reflections
S One of the strengths of our project was that the tower was pretty tall.
O This project could have gone better than it did. If I had to make it again, I would probably make a triangular base instead of the log-cabin one. I would do the rest the same, though.
U This project taught me to think outside the box. We really had to think creatively to make this tower.
L We had several limitations during this project. First of all, the tower was tall, but not very sturdy. We couldn't think of any way to hold it up. Also, we didn't have enough tape for all our ideas.
WISCR - During our project, I think we used the C a lot - communication. We had to communicate well to finish the project, and I'd say we succeeded.
