Description: In a group of 4 or 5, build the tallest structure that is sturdy and stays up for at least 1 minute. The structure is built solely of straws and 2ft of masking tape. It must stand alone , and the only thing that touches it is the floor.
Brainstorm: We were thinking about the base, and what shape to do, but honestly we were thinking to built straight up, which was futile. So we thought of a different plan to loop the long line of straws around because we already built the straw line so tall.
Procedure: We started with one triangle base with a long line of straws going up, but it was to high, and was going to fall. So, we decided to go for a bridge structure with two triangle bases and a half circle in the middle. We were also thinking of using a square or quadrilateral base instead of a triangle, but ended up using a triangle base.
SOUL Reflection:
S - For my team, definitely the structure worked, and our idea was ideal-ish
O - We thought just about making the tower the tallest, and not about the base, and the stabilities
U -I learned that we should have probably brainstormed more and planned before we started
L - What prevented us from having a successful project is that our idea defied the laws of physics
WISCR - I think my team really had a good idea and a strong understanding of how to make the tallest structure. I think we were critical thinkers and we were very self motivated students, and we gained a lot of ideas from this project. I think this opportunity was very memorable and fun
