Soap Mold
Are you a perfect serve? Cause you aced my heart.
Are you a perfect serve? Cause you aced my heart.
Description: For this project, we are asked to create a soap for someone that we loved and cared about. We would create a design for them that has a deeper meaning and represents something to the other person. Then after we design it, we will make a mold using a reusable silicone mold. There will also be a tagline that would be related to what you made on your design. the requirements for this project is 3 inches in length and 1.5 inches maximum in height.
Brainstorm: I immediately thought of Darsh because he is a friend. On the design, I went with the Indian flag because Darsh is Indian ,and I went with a samosa because Darsh loves eating Samosas. Then I also put a ping pong racket because he plays ping pong in his free time. When I was trying to decide on a tagline, I decided to go with one that is about ping pong. So the tagline is "Are you a perfect serve? Cause you aced my heart."
This was my first rough draft and I based my final draft off this one.
This was my final brainstorm idea and is also what I used to CAD.
Procedure: I used the Fusion 360 tool to make my project. To start, I imported my final brainstorm design into my sketch to begin CADing. Then, using the spline tool, I trace along all of the edges of all the image. I also had to make sure that everything was in a different sketch so that if I decided to move something, I could move it without worrying about the other objects. When I felt like I was confident, I extruded all of sketches to try and see how it looked like. I thought it looked pretty good so I decided to print. The first time, however, my print didn't have any of the details that I put in (green), so I had to change it. The second time (grey) though, I got it just right after I extruded every detail to a different height.
This was the sketch for the first design where everything was still the same height.
This was the sketch for the second sketch when nothing is extruded yet.
This was my first extrude where all of the sketches where still the same height.
This was the second extrude where I made everything a different height.
This was my first print and as you can see, none of the details can be seen.
This was the final design and the one that I used to make the soap mold.
Procedure: After I was done with the print, I started to use a silicone mixture to coat my 3d design. Then, I waited for it to become a hard, stretchy material where we could then pour in the soap. We had to work very fast because the silicone material we used only had a cure time of 5 minutes which means we only had 5 minutes to finish the mold. Luckily, I finished in time and could start on the soap. We melted down solid soap and used that liquid to pour into the mold. We could also choose what scent we wanted for the soap, I picked lavender. I also added a drop of blue food coloring to make it look better. After waiting, the soap hardened and I got my final product.
This was my mold that I used to put the soap in.
This was the final product after the soap hardened.

SOUL Reflection:
(S)strength - I think my strength in this project was being able to fix my mistakes and also being able to adapt. For example, after I saw what was wrong with my first design, I immediately fixed my mistakes and tried my best to make all of the little details visible.
(O)opportunities - Something that I could've done to improve my project is that I should've started making the soap sooner because I was one of the last people to make the soap so I have to wait longer in order to get my final product.
(U)Understanding: Something I learned during this project was how hard it was to get everything right on the first try just like how I didn't get my design right. I also learned that in order to show the details, you have to extrude everything at a different height.
(L)limitations: Some of my limitations was that I had a lot of things on my design so therefore, it took me a lot longer to extrude it and design it. This also resulted in me having to do a lot of sizing and continuous changes to my design.
WISCR:
(I)Insightful and critical thinkers: I showed that I was an insightful and critical thinker because after I figured out the mistake on my first design, details not showing up, I tried to fix it right away in order to get a better result with my second try.
(S)Self-Motivated: Throughout this project, I tried to stay as motivated as possible becasue constanly going through trials and errors was a pretty difficult process and required me pushing myself. And although I made errors, I never gave up and lasted till the very end.
